Little Hill Fish Bar, Wigston, Leicestershire

Our previous visits to Wigston have been a mixed bag. Two absolute shockers and one very good one. Thankfully this one fell in the amazing category.

I went on a quiet Thursday lunchtime. The chip shop is set back from the road with a green and a car park. I expect there were some benches here at one time that have now been removed due to antisocial behaviour.

The good sign upon arriving was there were only sausages and pies in the hot box. The chap serving said it would be five mins so I took a seat.

It was pleasing to see a sensible amount of chips in the tray alongside a fantastic looking piece of haddock.
The batter was spot on; thin and crisp. The haddock came away from the batter in flakes. No stickiness here. Everything was so clean and perfect. Just how you want it to be.

The chips were equally as impressive. Not a hint of grease. Straight edges. Medium thick with a fluffy inner.

Who needs a bench when they’re floating?
