William Walton, Anstey, Leicestershire

The last time we went to William Walton was in 2015. Doesn’t time fly when you’re enjoying chips?!

On this visit the layout of the shop was much different. Most of the customer side of the shop was sectioned off so there was only room for one customer. The counter had a sneeze screen and a little ice cream tub to put money in. It was cash only here and there was a request for the exact change if possible.

It was suggested by the woman serving that we had a scoop (aka a cone) of chips. What a good idea, as the skinless haddock was humongous.

One of us chose a full size haddock and the other requested a mini fish. We were told the food would be brought to a stool at the back door for us to collect.

A few minutes later we were having a car picnic. The chips were cut quite thin from new potatoes. A delicate crispness with a soft inner. They had been perfectly seasoned and were utterly delicious.

The haddock had beautiful thick white flakes. The photos speak for themselves. The batter was perfect too. After all that we needed something to wash it all down so headed to Anstey Ale Brewery.
