Battered chips in the East Midlands (part 2)

In 2019 we wrote a blog about having some battered chips at a pub's monthly chip night. The pub has since changed hands, and battered chip night is no more. (You can read that blog here).

The West Midlands delicacy of battered chips seems to be creeping eastward. A few more chip shops in the East Midlands seem to be tentatively offering them - sometimes once a week. This was the case with the chip shop that one of the Chip Fiends visited. We purposely chose battered chip night to see how they would fare.

Unfortunately the food was very poor. We don't know if the orange batter was an attempt to disguise how old and dry the chips were, but it didn't work. In fact the whole meal seemed desiccated. The dry cod was plucked out of its batter but the majority of the food went in a bin.

On this evidence the East Midland shops should leave it to the experts in the west! But we will keep a look out for better examples.
