This is a chip shop that caters for a fairly modern housing estate on the outskirts of Ilkeston.
I visited early evening for my ‘chippy tea’ and ordered haddock, chips and curry sauce, open. The fish here (which also includes cod) is cooked to order, which is good. I was asked if I wanted salt and vinegar on the chips, and the curry in a separate pot. Also good.
There are some interesting photos of bygone Ilkeston to look at while you wait for your food. The flypapers hanging from the ceiling are a bit off-putting, however. It may be worth the shop investing in an Insect-O-Cutor.
I had a picnic on a nearby stretch of grass. The curry sauce was Chinese style and mixed so thick you could stand a chip in it. It was very good.
The chips were nice and crisp. Cut broad and flattish (a bit like beefeater chips).
The fish was spoiled by under-cooked batter which was doing a very good impersonation of sticky rice pudding.
If you want to pay by card, Elite Chippy takes contactless payment, which is handy.
