Mobile Chip Shop, Pegg's Green, Leicestershire

 

We haven't done many reviews of chippy vans. For the most part we travel to chip shops rather than wait for them to come to us! In the handful of chip vans that we have eaten from before we can now add mobilechipshop.co.uk to our list. This is easily the best chip van that we have experienced.

It is difficult to find out the van's routine. The owners have a Facebook and Instagram account but there doesn't appear to be a list of locations posted on it. Someone who lived near Peggs Green told us that the van usually parks in the car park of the New Inn, Zion Hill, on a Monday evening, so we kept this in mind and visited when we were free.

We were served so quickly that we hardly had time to look at the menu. Mind you, it saved us from having to hang around in the cold and wet, so that was a bonus.

The Mobile Chip Shop only serve cod in one size. They don't do 'mini' fish, but having eaten it we were glad it wasn’t smaller because it was delicious! The batter was light and crispy on a really chunky fresh fillet of cod.

The mushy peas were excellent. Soaked by the owners themselves, (not tinned and not dyed), and very delicious. 

The chips were chunky chips, and very fluffy on the inside - just right. We were pleased to have a few left over to make a chip butty the following day.

One thing that is worth noting is that the van has a deal with the New Inn, and customers can take their food into the pub. The pub will serve tea and bread and butter as an accompaniment. Isn't that great?

The proprietors, Matt and Daniel  know what they are doing! We were very impressed with the cleanliness of the van and the quick service.
