At Birstall he burst his gall. I refer to the legend of Bel the giant, who apparently was buried in Belgrave. In Mountsorrel he mounted his sorrel mare. We’ve already reviewed a chippy in Mountsorrel. I don’t think there’s a chippy in Wanlip where said pony took one leap, so today we’re at Birstall Fisheries.
It’s a “COVID secure” chippy with signs directing customers in and out, markers on the floor where to stand and screens and hand sanitiser on the counter.
I requested a lunchtime special of mini haddock, chips and curry sauce for £5.50. Paid and found a bench nearby.
This fish was very good. A light, crisp batter. It was quite a big portion for a lunchtime special. Very good value for money. The chips were very good for new potatoes too. Nice and soft. The curry sauce was thick but was somewhat lacking in flavour. I wasn’t going to complain though, I ate the lot.
