Angelo's Wood Road Fish Bar, Derby

I visited Angelo’s one lunchtime and purchased a mini fish special: mini cod, chips and curry sauce.

Service was cheerful and brisk and the meal was served in a lidded box with the sauce in a separate pot.

The shop has perspex sneeze screens and markers on the floor guiding two customers where to stand at a distance. Oddly however, customers can help themselves to salt and vinegar which is on the other side of the sneeze screen. Customers therefore have to reach through a gap in the perspex to pick up the salt shaker. This seems to defeat the object of maintaining hygiene. The salt and vinegar pots also looked like they needed a clean.

The nearest seat to the chippy was in a bus shelter. The food was average fare. New potato chips with rather a lot of shards; looking like the last few scoops.

The cod had a high ratio of batter to fish. The fish was chewy and dry from standing in the hot box.

The curry sauce was excellent. Spicy and delicious and mixed very thick. It helped to give the rest of the food the flavour it needed.
