Groby Fish Bar, Groby, Leicestershire

We’ve passed by this chippy a couple of times on our journeys, so decided it was time one of us paid a visit.

This Chip Fiend went one sunny Saturday afternoon. The chip shop is bright, clean and spacious. Enough space for social distancing, and the doors were marked ‘entrance’ and ‘exit’, so as to avoid any COVID collisions. Although on this visit a man with two children in tow couldn’t read and went in through the out door.

The food was cooked to order and I went and sat on the grass outside the library to dine.

The portion was humongous. The chips were cut thick and long. Floury on the inside. They could have done with a touch more salt but I’d forgotten to bring my salt pot. Fortunately I had remembered my mini bottle of Henderson’s Relish, so splashed some of that on.

The haddock was large too. The batter had a nice crunch to it in the middle but was a bit too thick at the edges and subsequently some of it was undercooked. The fish inside was nice though, with some decent flaking.
