Syston Fish Bar, Syston

One of us made it to Syston for the opening of Frydales and noticed there were some other chip shops to try out. On this visit it was time for Syston Fish Bar.

One of the Chip Fiends ordered mini cod and chips for £3.99 and the other ordered cod roe and chips. The service was a bit of a struggle; with the staff mishearing cod roe and chips for a chip cob (a chip roll). After about three attempts cod roe was understood.

The food was cooked to order, the cod fillet being more of a regular size than mini. We didn’t realise this also included a free side of curry or peas, so this was super VFM.

The batter was light and crunchy crisp. The chips were floury on the inside, with no hint of grease. The roe was standard but the batter was nice again. The curry was on the runny side.
