The Spire Frier, Chesterfield

The Spire Frier is a nice little chippy a stones throw from the famous steeple. It’s the kind of shop where the staff call their customers ‘love’ and ‘darling’.

There are two tables inside to seat six people next to a large mural of the crooked spire.

This Chip Fiend ordered mini fish and chips and curry sauce. The friendly server asked if I wanted chip shop curry or Chinese; and also if I wanted it over the food or in a pot. Fabulous.

The food was soon ready. I ate in. Napkins, knives, and forks were provided.

The cod itself was very good. Nice and juicy: it's tasty, moist flakes fell apart. However, the batter was rather wet on the inside so I peeled that away.

The chips were cut quite thin and very long. They must have come from a whopping potato! They were a tad chewy.

The curry sauce was very good. Delicious and thick. The member of staff had disappeared in the back kitchen so I didn’t get to say bye bye.
