Soul 'n' Chips, Burton On Trent, Staffordshire

A chilly lunchtime in Burton brought this Chip Fiend to Soul ‘n’ Chips. Suitably located for local residents living on Anglesey Road, this is a traditional chippy that also seemed to pushing its specials of halloumi, and various types of kebab.

I ordered a small fish with chips and peas for £4.20. Good VFM.

The owner was a friendly chappy and offered to put salt and vinegar on the chips before dolloping the peas on top. He also insisted I use a ‘better’ plastic fork rather than one of the wooden ones on the counter.

The chips were a little chewy and the batter on the fish was a tad soggy inside. However, the fish itself was delicately cooked and the creamy mushy peas were delicious.
