Motherchip, Fat Cat Brewery Tap, Norwich

Loaded chips appear to have become very popular in recent times.

The Chip Fiends last tried some in Overstrand from a ‘street-food’ style organisation named The Bucket List. The latter have been so successful that they have opened a shop in Hamilton Road, Cromer.

Mother Chips are served at The Fat Cat Brewery Tap in Norwich. They were doing a roaring trade on the evening we visited.

The menu starts with a plain bucket of chips. To this, an increasing amount of various toppings can be added. Curry sauce, gravy or grated cheese... followed by some more spectacular concoctions such as:
  • Beer battered halloumi with minted peas and tartare sauce
  • Mac 'n' Chicken with baconnaise and crispy onions
  • Dr Pepper pulled pork with slaw and crushed peanuts
If you’re not into meat or dairy you can opt for vegetarian or vegan variations on the above.

The buckets are rather big. If you don’t have a huge appetite it might be a good idea to check out the portion size from fellow diners and decide if you want to share!

We opted for a bucket with curry sauce and another loaded with grated cheese and shared.

The chips were nice and crisp, and still had their skins on. The toppings were generous and tasty. We helped the food down with some delicious Fat Cat beers.

It all added up to a satisfying evening out in the Fine City.
