Ray’s Traditional Fish and Chips, Highcross, Leicester

This restaurant and takeaway opened recently. A chippy in a shopping centre! One of us made our way there as soon as we could.

Admittedly, I didn’t study the menu too closely as I knew what I wanted.

Cod, chips and peas. The peas came  free. £8.40 in total.

I sat at a table and checked out the decor. It was somewhat reminiscent of the Cods Scallops.

There was a generous pile of medium cut chips that were piping hot. No hint of grease or sogginess, floury on the inside. The perfect chip.

The batter was quite crunchy but wasn’t thick. It encased a super chunky fillet of cod and that flaked to the delight of this Chip Fiend! They weren’t stingy with the lemon wedge either.

The peas had some bite to them and were nice with a dash of vinegar and salt.
