Mr Chippy, Northampton

The Chip Fiends were going to visit Mr Chippy once before but got waylaid by coming across Richards Fish Bar instead.

It’s safe to say that Mr Chippy really specialises in authentic Turkish kebabs. All the other customers on this Saturday lunchtime were ordering these. The amount of meat piled onto the pita bread was astonishing. We watched this while our cod was frying.

The cod comes in two sizes here: regular for £4.50 and large for an extra 50 pence!

Our regular cod was on the large size anyway. It seems that the fish sizes at Mr Chippy are as generous as the kebabs.

The chips were ok but nothing special. They were perked up by some rather dark vinegar.

The cod was nice... and seemed never ending as we tucked in. However the batter was a bit of a disaster. Thick and soggy inside. Luckily it hadn’t stuck to the fish so it was easy to peel away and discard.

After several recent encounters with bad batter one of the Chip Fiends wondered what was going wrong... “batter never used to be like this when we were kids.”
