Frydales, Leicester. Return visit.

We needed to catch up with Frydales as there have been some developments since our previous visit; the boss there being one of the UK’s top voted young fryers for a start.

It was nice following the aroma of chips frying, from Hinckley Road to the warm greetings from the staff behind the counter.

There a large sign inside with numbered meals on display. This certainly makes ordering very easy. We chose Meal One; fish and chips and mushy peas and Meal Nine; halloumi fritter, chips and curry sauce.

They sell homemade fish cakes so this will be something to try in future.

Instead of having the food wrapped to takeaway we decided to eat in at the back of the shop. With food freshly cooked we really wanted to tuck in ASAP.

The chips here are double fried which makes them super crisp outside and utterly delicious. The batter on both the fish and the halloumi was spot on; very light and crisp.

The halloumi was a nice vegetarian option but seemed a bit small; decent enough for lunch but for dinner you might want to add another side to go with it.

We enjoyed the peas a tad more than the curry sauce both being very good indeed.

The prices here may seem a tad high but you’re paying for quality, that’s for sure.
