The Chippy, Chesterfield

It was the decor of this Chesterfield chip shop that attracted us. One of the Chip Fiends was passing by and couldn't help but notice the beach hut stripes on the shop front and a deckchair outside.

The seaside theme continues inside with beach hut decorations and sauce holders that are shaped like miniature picnic benches.

There are two bar stools inside the small shop as well as the deckchair outside.

The Chippy has a good menu: haddock, cod, plaice, Yorkshire fishcakes, cod roe, scampi and fish fingers. A sign proclaims that all fish is cooked to order. Good.

I ordered a mini fish box meal at £5.40. (Fish, chips and mushy peas). There is a TV screen behind the Henry Nuttall counter for customers to watch while their fish fries. After a few minutes the meal was boxed. Salt and vinegar was put on for me. (I prefer DIY).

The chips were crisp and had a good taste to them. The portion was very generous. The mushy peas were very nice and a reassuringly natural colour.

The fish was ok. It was a good size for a mini but the inside of the batter was soggy so I peeled it off and didn't eat any.
