Battered Creme Egg, The Cods Scallops

The battered Creme Egg has been something of a phenomenon this Spring. Although some chippies have sold them in previous Easters, they seem to have really taken off this year. Eric’s at Thornham, The Chippy at Antrim, and Mrs Seas at Loscoe are just a few of the places that have posted pics of this popular deep-fried delicacy on their social media accounts in the past couple of weeks.

The Chip Fiends tried them at The Cods Scallops, Nottingham.

Customers can either have the eggs on their own here, or served with ice cream. We opted for the latter.

If you’ve not tried a battered Creme Egg, we would highly recommend it. The warm chocolate actually made the egg more palatable than we think they usually are, and the thin coating of batter on the outside made a lovely addition, toning down the sweetness a tad.

It may be too late for you to try one this year (lots of chip shops around the UK were not going to serve them after Saturday 20th April), so look out for them again in 2020. We wonder if they will be the hit they were this year. The battered Creme Egg gets a thumbs up from us!
