Awesome Chips, Birmingham

What baffles me is how a lot of chip shops seem incapable of making the perfect chip. Most chippies serve what can best be  described as reasonable chips. Too often we come across ones that are soggy or chewy.

Awesome Chips, as you may already be aware, do cook perfect chips. This is because they fry them more than once.

This Chip Fiend thought it was about time to check out the Brummagem branch. There were about seven staff beavering away; pressing spuds through a chipper, frying, taking orders and serving.

The portions here are big, so I ordered a small one. As in the Leicester branch, they put the freshly fried chips into a metal bowl and added salt and vinegar before stirring them to get an even coating. I tried one of the Dutch sauces, the Frite (cheese sauce). You have a choice of having the sauces mixed in or squirted on top. I had it mixed in this time.

The chips were excellent; medium thin and very crisp on the outside, soft on the inside.
I reckon I’d prefer them without the sauce, but had to try with again for the novelty.

Another good thing about this place is the packaging. They use paper bags and wooden forks. No plastic or polystyrene here.
