Robinson’s of Cromford, Cromford, Derbyshire

Some rules are there to be broken. Today we decided to break one rule. The mushy peas from Robinsons were so exceptional that we couldn’t rate them 5/5. They’re a 6/5...

This small traditional chippy stands in the centre of the village. It really takes you back to chip shops of yesteryear. I hope they never decide to modernise the place.

Cod was on the menu, so cod, chips and mushy peas for one and cod, chips and curry sauce for the other.

There’s a notice here that if you want a battered pineapple ring, to order it upon entering the shop. We ordered one to share.

The food looked impressive as it was served. The chips are crinkle cut! Just like the ones at Wale’s in Nuneaton and TJ Perkins in Leicester.

We found a seat near the famous Scarthin Books and started to tuck in. As soon as the first morsel touched my lips a cat appeared, no doubt enticed by the delicious aroma of freshly cooked cod.

Everything was as it should be. The batter was light and crisp, the cod was moist and flaky, the chips were tasty. The curry sauce seeped into the chips making a delicious mix.

yes
That pineapple ring was super, it certainly didn’t taste like it was from a tin. It was firm and juicy. The cat had a piece of cod and purred its approval before wandering off.
