Sid’s Golden Chippy, Stamford

You’ll find this chip shop on the edge of a residential area just off the B1081 road.

It’s was a busy Friday lunchtime and they were cooking more fish and chips to keep up with the demand. The fish was served in three sizes. I chose the regular.

Service was prompt and the food was placed in one of those handy cardboard boxes.

The chips were medium cut and a lovely golden yellow. The batter on the cod was equally as pleasing to the eye. These were the kind of scrumptious looking chips that one cannot resist to start scoffing as soon as the first foot steps out of the door.

The chips were crisp on the outside and melt in the mouth on the inside. Delicious.
The batter on the fish was crisp outside with a slight softness/sogginess on the inside but wasn’t stodgy. It was good. Peeling it back revealed thick flakes of fresh white cod. A sign in the shop boasted of the fish being delivered fresh from Grimsby each day.

I nodded and thought to myself that I’d not had a portion of cod this good in while.
