Markfield Fish Bar, Markfield

We took a diversion into this village to see if the chip shop was open. We arrived just after 5pm and found a space to park opposite.

The shop was anticipating a busy Saturday evening and several fish were already on display.  There seemed to be a lot of staff working so service was prompt. We barely had a chance to look at the menu.

Regular haddock, small haddock and one portion of chips came to over £10.00. I had to pinch myself to check I wasn’t in London.

We sat in the car to eat, the windows soon began to steam up from the piping hot picnic.

The chips were super; crisp on the outside and floury on the inside. The batter on both fish looked promising but there was some sogginess on top. The underneath was crunchy.

The small fish had cooked to thick white flakes and was better than the regular one. The regular was a bit on the translucent side and could have done with a bit longer in the fryer. It tasted very fresh though.

We opened the car windows to clear some of the condensation and a cat appeared, no doubt enticed by the aroma.
