Riverside Fish and Chips, Matlock Bath

It’s been a while since we last visited Matlock Bath. If you’re not familiar with the place, it could best be described as a landlocked seaside town. There are amusement arcades, gift shops, ice cream parlours and, of course, chip shops.

In fact, there are loads of chip shops, so we will return again. On this visit it was Riverside, the one on the other side of the road, overlooking the River Derwent.

It’s a large restaurant with two seating areas either end of the counter. There’s quite a few picnic tables outside too.

Many of the chippies in Matlock offer a mini fish and chips meal with mushy peas for £4 to £4.50. We decided to try the offer here.

Riverside were obviously anticipating a lot of customers this teatime as they had already cooked quite a few fish and placed them in the heated display.

We were asked to take a seat and the food was soon brought over.

It was an adequate portion of fish and chips for the money with a decent sized dollop of peas. The fish tasted nice and fresh and had a light crisp batter. The chips were cut quite flat and were beginning to get a bit chewy. The peas were nice but improved with a few splashes of vinegar and a sprinkle of salt.
