Michael's Fish Bar, Handsacre, Staffs

One of the Chip Fiends was off work. Having a lazy morning, daytime TV was on in the background. When one of the presenters of 'Homes Under the Hammer' was talking about the local amenities of Handsacre, the Chip Fiend's ears pricked up. A chip shop?... A chip shop! This warranted a visit.

The Chip Fiends duly arrived one Saturday lunchtime at Michael's Fish Bar (for that was the chippy referred to on TV).

Cod and chips with mushy peas was what we fancied. Michael's also fry haddock but you'll have to order that specially upon entering the shop. We waited a short while for some fresh chips to be fried.

When our lunch was ready we sat on a bench at The Green.

The chips were lovely. Medium to chunky with lovely straight edges and piping hot.

The cod was good. It had big chunky flakes. However the batter was incredibly thick. We broke this open to reach the fish and left the batter. It's thickness made the fried cod look like a giant brandy snap.

Leftover batter

We didn't buy a house but we did almost crack our fish batter under the hammer...
