Sheringham Trawler, Norfolk

It was a sunny day in Sheringham and this Chip Fiend hadn't eaten for a few hours. I passed the Sheringham Trawler and caught a whiff of chips... did a U-turn and entered.

This is quite a surprisingly big chippy. It is more of a cafe really with lots of tables, but a corridor to the left of the seating area guides customers to the takeaway counter at the rear of the shop.

I couldn't see an obvious menu board inside although there is one outside before you walk in. I simply asked for 'fish and chips open'. The Trawler serve cod, haddock, rock and skate but cod is the standard so that's what I got.

The fish was very good. Fresh and pure white. But it was tricky to separate from the hard, thick batter. Fans of batter would like it here. It was very crisp and quite chunky.

The chips were fried from new potatoes. These make a nice seasonal change but they're never quite as good as the full grown ones.
