There are two chip shops almost opposite each other on
Nottingham street near the A607 that cuts through Melton. One being Nicko's -
established 1967 - and the other being the Millennium Fish Bar. (Wonder when
that opened?!)
On this visit the Chip Fiends visited Nicko's. Nicko's has
a small cafe but we went for a takeaway as it was a bright sunny day.
Between us we ordered small fish and chips, and small
fish, chips and curry sauce. The big fish looked very long! Great if you have a
big appetite!
The fish was good although the batter was a bit on the
heavy side. The chips were very nice. Cut quite chunky, they were hot and fresh
tasting. One Fiend had noticeably more 'shards' than the other though, so that
Fiend's meal wasn't quite as good as the other's.
The curry sauce was delicious. In the 'Chinese style' that
we enjoy, it was thick and was made all the better with a splash of vinegar.
