Watson's Traditional Fish Bar, Hugglescote

Watson's has been the name associated with very good fish and chips for many years in this part of North West Leicestershire. There was a lovely little shop on Ashby Road, Coalville run by a man with Art Garfunkle hair, that looked little more than someone's outhouse and one near the Clock Tower that was very popular too.

Some chip shops stick in your memory and this one did as well as the above mentioned.

We returned one Saturday lunchtime and ordered mini fish and chips.
The fish was more of a medium size but next to the whale-sized regular in the heated display we weren't surprised ours was "mini".

We were asked what portion sized chips we wanted and went for the smallest. This also was very generous, with fish and chips at under a fiver.

The chips were medium thick and all shapes and sizes and very good.

The battered haddock (skin on) was also very good. It had a light and crisp batter on it. We ate all of the fish; batter, skin and all. After enjoying our lunch we went to look at the Hugglescote Bear.

We decided we need to return to eat a whale.
