Britannia Fish Bar, Long Eaton, Derbyshire

A Saturday evening. Lots of customers were in the Britannia Fish Bar with huge orders. Just a selection of the food being bagged up included chips and doner meat, sausage and chips, battered burgers, spam fritters, 4 fish bites and chips... and so on. This is clearly a popular place in spite of some very stiff competition from an excellent chippy a couple of streets away.

The Chip Fiends ordered a mini fish, chips and peas special for £4.40. A fairly simple order. We were pleased the fish was going to be fresh out the fryer along with the chips which customers were waiting for.

The chips looked very good. Thin cut and very fresh looking. However, they were served without salt and vinegar, the mushy peas dolloped all over them and the fish placed on top. "Salt and vinegar?" from the server, almost sounded like an afterthought.

With no way of condiments reaching the chips underneath it meant for quite a flavourless meal.

When we opened the batter, the fish (which was served skin side up) had a greyish and translucent pallor. It was undercooked.

Very disappointing.
