Tennants Fish and Chips, Long Eaton

The Chip Fiends first visited Long Eaton in 2015. We were astounded by the amount of chip shops in this town, so much so that we find ourselves drawn back to try them all.

This traditional looking chippy is tucked away in a residential area a short stroll from the town centre. It has limited opening hours so we had to time our visit well. We were there on a Saturday lunchtime, the shop isn't open on a Saturday evening.

The shop was busy with customers, almost queuing out of the door. If you want fish, you are advised to request this upon entry. The fish is cooked to order. Splendid.

We ordered cod, chips and curry sauce, and haddock and chips. We looked at the menu and noted the shop served Bratwurst as well as the usual battered sausages.

The chips appeared to be fried from new potatoes, but they were very crisp outside and fluffy on the inside. Quite delicious. The gelatinous curry sauce soaked onto the chips and made a good mix.

The fish portions are quite large and offer good VFM. The batter was abundantly thick and the flavour began to overwhelm the delicate sweetness of the haddock and cod. We discarded almost all of the batter so we could enjoy the fish, which was excellent. It's also worth noting the haddock here was skinless.
