Our Top Chip Shops of 2016

It's that time of the year when us Chip Fiends look back at our favourite chip shops of 2016.

Fish and Chip Co at Leicester Forest East impressed on many levels. Fantastic fresh tasting food and a cool looking modern shop. Their masala curry sauce has to be tried.

Hooked On Fish at Cradley Heath served the finest orange battered chips; a Black Country delicacy that we were excited to eat. Proper bostin' fittle.

Golden Union in Soho served delicious chunky cod in a crisp light batter. A busy and popular restaurant that we will no doubt visit again soon.

Another busy restaurant we visited was Shaw's in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
The meal to eat in was amazing value for money at £4.49.

Stoney Stanton Chip Shop in Leicestershire served thick portioned fish paired with chunky chips. The batter here was also light and crisp. Just how we like it.

Long Eaton Fish Bar was tops. The quality of the food here is excellent. The portions of mini fish and chips with a sauce are generous and satisfying. The chips are chunky, and the fish fresh with a light batter. The Chinese-style curry sauce is memorably delicious. The clean premises and chatty staff also make this a chippy worth revisiting.

New Sole Plaice was a wonderful find. This chip shop is a short walk from the centre of Norwich and although it caters mostly for local neighbours it must be highlighted for its impressive selection of fish. It is also run by the friendliest owner we have met during our chip hunts.

Other excellent shops we visited were High Street Chippy in Macclesfield, Codrophenia in Sheffield, Plumtree Fish and Chips in Keyworth and Tony's in Skegness.

These are just some of the amazing chip shops we've visited in the past year and there are loads more to come. We're looking forward to finding more in 2017.
