Lakeside Fish Bar, Alsager

The Chip Fiends went to the Lakeside Fish Bar on a Thursday lunchtime. There was steady stream of customers. We could tell how popular this shop was as there were about five or six staff working there, at lunchtime!

We ordered haddock, chips and peas and were asked what size fillet we wanted. Upon asking what size the large fillet was we were told "Large!" We then saw some freshly cut fillets and can confirm they were humongous. The owner held up a small haddock and it was the ideal portion for lunch.

We were impressed with the wrapping skills of the staff when a customer ordered chips and they were served in a large handmade paper cone.

It's worth noting that they also serve fish fried in breadcrumbs if you prefer this to batter.

The till rang and the meal was a £4.30 small fish special. Excellent VFM.

We sat in the nearby park and listened to water fowl bickering as we munched away.

The chips were medium thick and crisp on the outside and floury on the inside.
The batter on the skinless haddock was a golden orange colour and very crisp and light. The haddock itself was very fresh tasting and flaky.

The mushy peas had a great texture; some bite to the peas in the sauce. However, this Chip Fiend found them quite sweet, almost to the point of them being a dessert. They could have done with a splash of vinegar in them.
