The Market Chippy, Sheffield

There was a chippy called Seafare on Charles Street in Sheffield. The Chip Fiends had seen queues outside the shop and intended to visit as it was very popular. Before we made it there, they moved to the Moor Market and renamed themselves as The Market Chippy.

Here we are then, in the excellent Moor Market. If you're ever in Sheffield the market is definitely worth a shopping trip. Bag of Yorkshire Scufflers for £1, fresh fish, bags of pork dripping, beer bottles from Beer Central and The Market Chippy.

The fish cake butty was very popular here as was the mini cod special with chips and mushy peas for £3.50. Scraps optional.
We were quite hungry so went for a large haddock fillet, skinless and cooked to order.

There is ample seating in the restaurant area of the market, so we ate in.
The food was served on a polystyrene plate with cutlery (we forgot to check if it was Sheffield steel) and a napkin.

The chips were thick cut with very precise square edges. They were fried a dark golden colour, as was the light crispy batter.
The haddock was very tasty; fresh, flaky, moist and pure white.

The mushy peas were utterly delicious. A pale green earthy slop we could have just gobbled on its own.

It was a large meal that filled without any feeling of being stodgy. The ideal chippy meal.
