Fish 'N' Fry, Mundesley

There are two chippies in Mundesley - a small seaside town overlooking the North Sea from the Norfolk coast. The Chip Fiends decided to visit the longer-established of the two.

When we arrived at Fish 'N' Fry early on a Friday evening one of the fryers informed us that we had come at the right time. "This is the calm before the storm!" He smiled.

The food here is cooked to order. Let the staff know what you want on entry. In a few minutes time your food will be ready.

While you wait you can listen to the musical notes of the deep fat fryer crackling a merry tune. You can also watch the efficient team frying and serving. This shop wraps the outer layer of their take-home orders in newspaper - a rarity these days!

The Chip Fiends had haddock and chips open in a tray. There is no 'mini' fish portion here. Our fish supper came to £7.50, but was a fair price to pay for very good quality food.

The server suggested we put our salt and vinegar on before putting the fish portion on top. Someone who knows how to please a Chip Fiend.

The haddock was what you might describe as 'succulent' or 'juicy'. It was fresh as a daisy and sweet to the taste. The batter was thin and crisp on top but thicker on the bottom. We left some of this to prevent getting full. The chips were pale golden and crisp on the outside.

There are plenty of benches nearby, so finding somewhere to eat in the open in Mundesley is not a problem.

During our visit locals called 'hello' to the staff as they passed by the shop's open door. However this chippy also does good business from the holiday trade and is open for longer hours in the summer months, including Sundays. If you're in the area this chippy is definitely worth a visit.
