Pete's, Bedworth, Warwickshire

The Chip Fiends have previously visited Pete's in Nuneaton. We found ourselves hungry in Bedworth, and thought we'd give their sister shop a try.

The chippery is in the Collycroft district to the north of the town on the busy Nuneaton Road. It has a large car park for driving customers.

The Chip Fiends had a Cod Special (fish, chips and peas for £4.29) and homemade fish cake, chips and peas for a bargain £2.50.

Pete's peas are prepared on the premises and we found them to be very good.

The chips were chunky with straight edges - nice and fluffy on the inside. (We got a better idea of the quality of the chips this time, because they weren't wrapped).

The cod was fresh and almost sweet-tasting, skinless, with a very light crispy batter.

The homemade fish cake was very good with a high proportion of fish. Much better than the factory-made discs of cardboard that many chippies sell.

This shop is much like the Nuneaton one: smart and modern, with large white tiles on the walls. The staff wear lemon coloured aprons and baseball caps with the Pete's logo on. A great value lunch cooked by a chippery with a fine attention to detail.
