Hooked On Fish, Cradley Heath

The battered chip is a delicacy usually only found in the Black Country. We knew of a chip shop in Nuneaton that sold them but that shop has been closed for a while.

We decided to head to the West Midlands to enjoy this unique style of chip once again.
Hooked On Fish is on Cradley Heath High Street. It's a great traditional looking chippy with very good value food. The sign outside reads "For Bostin Fish and Chips."

We had the mini battered cod and chips. This came to £2.99.
The excitement of seeing battered chips scooped into the tray is impossible to describe, so I won't bother. The service was polite and efficient and we were told to visit again. I'm sure we will.

The mini cod was chunky, fresh, sweet and delicious in a crispy batter. Just the right size portion for lunch.
The chips are truly amazing. Some of them almost looked bright orange. They were medium thick and the batter made a crispness we'd not experienced since eating battered chips in Nuneaton.
The batter on the chips doesn't spoil the flavour of the potato, in fact it enhances it. The chips were delicious.
