The Mayfair Chippy, London

This renowned chippy is in a beautiful building located a minute or two from the hustle and bustle of Oxford Street.

Upon entering, it may strike you that there is no fryer and no aroma of battered food cooking. You will find yourself in a very cool and smart looking restaurant. The kitchen is on another floor and the fish and chips are sent to the diners via a dumbwaiter.

On our visit the tables were set for a large booking for Christmas. Some diners without reservations managed to bag a few of the high stools for a meal. The Chip Fiends got a takeaway.

A short wait and the boxed meal appeared in the mini elevator and was put into a brown paper bag with complimentary tubs of mayonnaise and ketchup and sachets of salt and vinegar.

We strolled to Hyde Park and found a spot to sit and eat.

Upon opening the box we could see the fish looked very good in a thin and crispy batter.
This batter proved to be delicious and light and the skinless haddock portion inside was flaky and flavoursome.

The chips looked like they'd been cut with some precision; they were uniform in length and thickness. They were a lovely golden colour and crisp on the outside.

We gobbled this winter picnic surrounded by envious pigeons.
