The Junction Fish Bar, Rainworth

The Chip Fiends had an epiphany. They found the best chips they'd ever had. Large, long chips. Flat and wide. Firm on the outside, fluffy and floury on the inside. Piping hot. This wasn't a dream, this was real.

This was in Rainworth at the Junction Fish Bar. The shop is very popular and was busy on our visit but there was no delay in getting served.
One of the Chip Fiends chose a Yorkshire Fishcake and mushy peas to go with their chips. The other Chip Fiend had mini fish and curry sauce.

The Yorkshire Fishcake was a good size; thick and with plenty of cod sandwiched between the potato and batter.

The mini fish was more like a medium size; a very generous portion of haddock. It was noted there was a choice of cod or haddock offered for the mini portion, something we don't often see. The fish was fresh tasting with perfect batter, crisp and light.

The curry sauce was so delicious we forgot to photograph it! Thick and quite peppery.

Nothing was left in the takeaway trays.
Both meals were utterly delicious.

The Junction Fish Bar has its heroes.
On 11 December 1975 customers of this very shop helped two policemen to apprehend Britain's most wanted criminal, The Black Panther.
Brave chip eaters dashed from the shop and restrained Donald Neilson whilst he was handcuffed to railings.
