Our Top Chip Shops of 2015

It's that time of year again chip fans, we choose our favourite fish and chip shops of the year. We've found some top notch takeaways and really good restaurants in 2015. Here are a few of the ones that stood out to us.

Fish House, Ely

This shop definitely served the best piece of fish we had all year. Moist, thick flakes in excellent batter. Steaming hot and yummed outside in the snow.

The Three Cottages, North Walsham

This shop and restaurant made a lasting impression. A busy lunchtime crowd - mostly made of regulars - means it's best to book here. Ask for the minted mushy peas and complement your dinner with a huge wally!

Green Island, Congleton

Pretty much the perfect traditional chippy. If you're ever in this Cheshire town you have to head here. They also sell some nice looking pies.

TJ Perkins, Leicester

The shop with no sign. Crinkle cut chips and excellent cod cooked in a vintage looking fryer in friendly and quirky surroundings.

The Chip Shop, Norwich.

Another traditional looking shop where they cook your food to order and the food is well worth the short wait.

Rafferty's, Corby

Well established for many years, we were impressed when we finally got to visit. Pretty much the perfect lunch, with a chunky mini fish and very tasty curry sauce.

The Junction, Rainworth

The best chips we had all year. The Yorkshire fishcake was excellent too.

Bardsley's, Brighton

The cheerfully pleasant service at Bardsley's of Brighton made this a memorable meal as well as the top quality of the food. Firm, fresh haddock, golden and delicious chips, with a generous portion of tartare sauce. Lovely.

Excellent meals were also noshed at George's Tradition in Long Eaton, The Magpie Cafe in Whitby and Poppie's of Spitalfields.

We've enjoyed our tour of fish and chip shops this year. We welcome your recommendations for shops to visit in 2016.
