French's, Wells-next-the-Sea

French's at Wells-next-the-Sea is a very popular destination for chip lovers on holiday in North Norfolk. The Chip Fiends went soon after opening and the queue had already started to form.

The service was efficient and we were invited to take a seat as the food was cooked to order. We were called as our dinner became available.

At French's you can eat in from your cartons for no extra charge. It was a little overcast so we decided to stay at the table with its own bottles of salt and vinegar. There is also a condiment station next to the counter which provides sachets of salt and vinegar, wooden knives and forks, hand wipes and napkins.

The Chip Fiends chose a medium sized haddock, which actually came quite big as it filled the carton it was served in. It was cooked with the skin on in a light batter. There was a little sogginess to the batter but it didn't spoil the flavour. It was some of the tastiest batter we'd eaten in a long time. The haddock was delicious.

The chips were a pale medium cut. Floury potato and again, very tasty. We shared a pineapple fritter as an extra treat.

We can see why French's is very popular.
