Rafferty's, Corby

Whenever people talk about the best chippies in the UK, the name Rafferty's often crops up.
Rafferty's award winning chippy was busy with fluorescent uniformed workmen picking up their lunch when we visited.

The gleaming modern shop has an extensive menu. They offer to cook your fish how you like it too; including in breadcrumbs rather than batter, if you prefer it that way.

The heated display already contained cod and haddock (£4.90) but it was the mini fish that just came out of the fryer that got this Chip Fiend's mouth watering. Mini fish, chips and curry sauce would cost £4.50. If you go for the lunchtime meal deal then an extra 10 pence will get you a can of soft drink too. Yes, £4.60 was VFM. Bargain of the day.

The batter on the fish was thin and crispy; the skinless fillet was the ideal size for a lunchtime nosh-up. The largest part of the fish contained big white thick flakes.

The chips were a pale, medium cut with a firm bite that we enjoy.
The curry sauce was flavoursome and thick, the type to make your finger ends go yellow. The whole meal was utterly delicious.

We crossed the road to admire this interesting build (which we think is a water tower) encircled by houses.

Rafferty's is on Occupation Road, Corby.
