Alan Fish Bar, Ely

The Chip Fiends liked the look of this chippy. Old fashioned. Traditional. Just look at the photos.
You'll find it on Broad Street as you head towards Ely city centre.

The menu has a mix of chippy food and Chinese food (duck fried rice pancake roll is one example).

Haddock and chips were ordered, the haddock being cooked whilst waiting. Other fish on the menu were cod, plaice and rock salmon.

The haddock portion was huge with a lot of crunchy batter. The batter would be excellent for making scraps to sprinkle over a bag of chips. As it was, it was too much to eat on the actual fish portion so a lot of it was wasted. We wouldn't want the batter to impair the taste of the fish.
The haddock (skin on) inside the batter was very good; steamed to perfection.

The chips were cut thin. Also cooked quite pale. This resulted in them being a bit greasy. They reminded me of chips you'd get in a cafe a few decades ago, served with fried eggs.
