As you enter Congleton town centre from the south west, Green Island chip shop is close to the roundabout on Willow Street.
A small double fronted shop with a seated area to the left and the counter on the right.

This Chip Fiend visited at lunch time, with a steady stream of customers mostly ordering chips and gravy and chip baps. A bap may be a roll, a cob or a batch to you. Gravy certainly seemed very popular here but Chip Fiend ordered haddock and chips without any side.

The haddock was cooked to order and served skinless in our preferred light and crisp batter. It tasted super-fresh and almost melted in the mouth. Very impressive. The chips were medium cut, pale and cooked to perfection; firm and potatoey.
It's worth noting the shop also serves spam fritters (which seem to increasingly appear on menus) and mushy pea fritters.
I can't recommend Green Island enough, the food there was excellent on this visit. They also have a gluten free menu.
