Pickles

Pickles. Mysterious pickles. How many of you order something from a jar when you visit a chip shop?
It's rare for the Chip Fiends to order something, when we have done, it tends to be a gherkin.

This Chip Fiend is of the opinion that the pickled egg is best served in a pub with a pint of beer. Does it really go with chips? Maybe if the chips and egg were smothered in curry sauce I'd enjoy it this way, otherwise it seems too dry.

The pickled onion. Long been the partner of strong cheddar in a Ploughman's Lunch. With chips? Actually not that bad. Especially if you are a fan of that chips and cheese combination that some go for, particularly after a night's drinking.

Let's get back to the gherkin, this small, nobbly, pickled cucumber goes with battered fish. Could I eat a whole one with a fish supper? Yes. The fresh crunchy pickle compliments the fried food, seemingly making it easier to digest. You want a bite? You can't have one. This is mine.
