Our Top Chip Shops of 2014

Us Chip Fiends have enjoyed visiting many different fish and chip shops this year. Here is a round up of some of our favourites. We look forward to visiting these Chippies again in 2015 as well as visiting a load of new ones.

Rock and Sole Place in Covent Garden: Humongously thick cut chips.

Swifts in Scarborough: We'd been here many times before and it's a great shop for very fresh, tasty food. Exceptional; one of our favourite seaside chippies.

New Cod on the block in Sheffield:
Very good value for money. We always go for the mini fish, chips and peas at lunchtime.

Jenny's Fish and Chips in York:
Haddock cooked to order in a crispy orange batter and some of the finest chips we've ever tasted.

Andy's Fish Bar, Church Gresley, Derbyshire: Very swift service, for this memorable car picnic. Andy's is an award winning chippy... BELIEVE the hype! We found the chips to be "Perfect, chunky and fresh".

Kedleston Fish Bar, Derby: A welcome meal on a crisp, cold night from a shop that is serious about where its fish is sourced from. One of the Chip Fiends commented: "The haddock was amongst the finest ever sampled. Perfectly steamed inside a thin layer of batter, it literally fell apart in large, fresh chunks. Delicious."

Apollo Fish Bar, Carlton, Nottingham: A no-nonsense local chippy with really fresh food, a friendly owner, and our favourite signage.

Burton Road Chippy, Lincoln: A lovely sweet fish, delicious curry sauce, impressive premises, and friendly staff.

Cods Scallops, Bramcote, Nottingham: Probably the most impressive menu of wet and cooked fish we have seen this year. We like how the unavailable fish is listed on the board as 'still in the sea'.
