Battered Beef Burger

It surprises this Chip Fiend when they see the battered beef burger in a chippy. It seems a relic of the past.

This Chip Fiend remembers childhood lunch times going to the town chippy as their food at the time was cheaper than a school dinner.

A cheap lunchtime meal was the battered beef burger and chips. This Chip Fiend seems to think it cost about £1.50 for the meal.

The slab of grey meat encased in soggy golden batter would be bitten into then held vertically so all the fat would run out onto the pavement. The small puddles of fat would congeal on the cold floor like drips of wax from a white candle.

Needless to say, it's many years since this Chip Fiend ate a battered beef burger.
