Swifts, Scarborough

You know that great moment when your chips and mushy peas almost congeal to a mass of carbohydrate deliciousness? Mmm. Some of you may find this confession hard to understand. Read on...

Swifts has long been a favourite of the Chip Fiends. You'll find them in a residential area of Scarborough on Dean Road. It truly is a gem of a find if you're a tourist. Us Chip Fiends were simply drawn to Swifts by its location (It's midway between the town and Peasholm Park) and its popularity.

Haddock, chips and mushy peas were ordered at lunchtime.
The fish is cooked to order for freshness. The batter was extremely crisp and delicious, the chips had a satisfying bite with a steaming fluffiness inside. The peas were perfection. Yorkshire caviar indeed.

So back to how they were served;
Chips in a tray, then mushy peas on the chips, then the haddock placed on top. The chips in the centre of the tray became soft under the peas. Chip Fiend admits to finding this a bonus when devouring a fish supper.
