Ruby's, Thringstone, Leicestershire

Ruby's was a chippy where relatives of some of the Chip Fiends once had their last meal before emigrating to the other side of the globe... This is definitely a good selling point.

So are the flowers outside. Ruby's are shouting out to passers by "Look we're HERE! Come and smell the flowers... and the fish and chips!" At night time when the flowers can't be seen, a neon sign does the job instead.

On this visit the Fiends had fish, chips, curry sauce, mushy peas and a portion of battered mushrooms on a skewer. All were rather lovely - especially the mushy peas which were delicious. A smooth sauce with soft bullets of peas.

Service at Ruby's is fast and efficient but sometimes there are long queues. The portions are very generous: a regular battered fish measures in at 38 centimetres long!

We were buying for three people but one portion of chips was left unopened - we ended up freezing them to eat later.
