Mandy’s Tasty Plaice, Brierley Hill, West Midlands

This chip shop came recommended for its battered chips. They were excellent.

The chippy stands on a hill in a residential area just outside the town centre.

I ordered fish and waited whilst the food was cooked. I noticed one of the staff bringing some raw battered chips from the back room to the fryer. It was interesting to see the battered chips in their raw state, smeared in orange gunk.

I found a spot to eat the huge portion.
The chips were bright orange and crunchy, just as they should be. The fish was disappointing. It had been standing too long and was extremely chewy. The batter on the fish was nothing like as good as the batter on the chips.

I stuck with the chips and left most of the fish.
