Ansley Fish Bar, Warwickshire

It was the look of Ansley Fish Bar that drew the Chip Fiends there. We came upon this chippy quite by accident. We thought it looked unusual; dark grey with signage that wouldn't look out of place on some fantasy novel or Progressive Rock LP sleeve.

We arrived one Friday lunchtime and climbed the steps into the small premises which was filled with mouth watering aromas.
The shop is a basic traditional looking village takeaway with a few bonus quirks.

The Chip Fiends ordered haddock, cod, chips and mushy peas. The fish was battered and cooked to order whilst we sat on a comfortable bench under a large wooden beam and watched Bargain Hunt on the TV.

It's worth noting the menu here lists the fish portion sizes by weight; 3 oz, 6 oz and the XL at 9 oz. We chose the 6 oz.

Reading the warning notice, we were careful to miss the beam as we stood to collect our order.

The chips were made from new potatoes, so were soft and medium cut as expected.
The batter was a dark orange colour with many little crisp peaks. The cod portion had the skin off, the haddock had the skin off. Both tasted super fresh and were delicious and flakey.

The mushy peas were very good too, so mushy in fact they were almost pea soup. This may not be to everyone's taste but they were excellent for dipping our chips into.
