July - August 2025 Round-Up

It’s been a lovely summer. There have been plenty of opportunities for the Chip Fiends to indulge in their favourite food, some of which have been by the sea. What could be more idyllic than eating at Mrs T’s at Southwold Harbour followed by a ride on the Walberswick Ferry in the July sun? This was certainly an experience we will never forget.

In contrast to this, one of the Chip Fiends had to shelter from the drizzle in a red telephone box while eating fish and chips in Sandbach, Cheshire.

The fryer at Rafferty's was very helpful and offered to put the mushy peas under the chips. Just like they do at Kerry's in Ilkeston!

One of the Chip Fiends visited Salt Beer Factory, a lovely former tram depot in Shipley, but not before lining their stomachs with some fish and chips with curry sauce at The Village Fish and Chips!

One of us also ate at the Beaufort Fish Bar in Derby before going for 'Smithfest' beers at The Smithfield.

Something we have long admired about pubs in Norwich is that some of them allow customers to bring fish and chips onto the premises. They even provide plates, cutlery and condiments for this! A few years ago we did this at The Jubilee and bought chips from across the road at Massingham’s. More recently we purchased a takeaway from Chish and Fips and enjoyed this meal with a real ale in The Duke of Wellington.

One of us returned to the Jubilee again too with a chippy tea. Massingham’s is now called The Fish Bar. A video of this will follow in future but at the moment you can see a short film of our Chish and Fips meal.

Also in Norfolk: Fish, chips and mushy peas in the restaurant of Dave's in Sheringham. This chippy is very popular but we arrived just before the lunchtime queue formed!

Summer 2025 meant a visit to Kent. In our ten years-plus history we don't think we have had fish and chips in 'the Garden of England', so this was long overdue.

We enjoyed a lovely meal at Ossie's, Canterbury, and a roadside picnic at Seven Seas in Whitstable.

Other YouTube uploads include Ashton’s, Bacup where we enjoyed one of the most moist and tasty fishes we had eaten in a long time.

A return to Ivan’s Fish and Chips, in the Black Country.

A no-nonsense, good value takeaway from The Golden Cod, Peterborough.

A picturesque stroll along the Millennium Walk Way in New Mills, High Peak, Derbyshire and lunch from The Master Fryer.

Hicks Street Fish Bar, Sheffield. One of our favourites in this city.

Clopton Catch, Stratford-upon-Avon with their lightly battered chips.

The Island House Takeaway in Wolverhampton.

Imperial Chippy, Leicester.

And finally, a return to Bury St Edmunds for fish and chips at West End.

That's all for our Summer 2025 blog... Take care and we will catch up with you in the Autumn.
