The Chippy of Chinley, Chinley, Derbyshire

We have fond and distant memories of this shop when it used to serve Chinese food. We called in once when we were camping in Edale many moons ago and had chips and crispy seaweed. Try it.

Now Chinley has a proper chip shop. They deep fry Oreos here but we just went for fish 'n' chips.

It’s one of those places that puts the salt and vinegar on for you. Except on this occasion it tasted like they’d forgotten. This meant the meal was very bland. The soggy chips only had a flavour of grease.

The mushy peas were also over sweetened. We’ve never tasted sugary mushy peas before. A pity, coz they were the undyed home-soaked type. They definitely looked better than they tasted.

Thankfully the fish was good. Nice and moist in a crisp, thin batter.

Note to self: start carrying our lockdown era salt 'n' vinegar again.

We were expecting better.
